The Healthy Youth and Culture Programmem promoted by the Department of Culture of the Consell Insular de Menorca through its Education Service, has enabled more than 2,000 students from the island to discover Menorca’s historical heritage during the 2024–2025 school year.

A total of 93 school groups, from various educational centres across Menorca, took part in educational activities and guided visits to the island’s main archaeological sites and heritage landmarks. Most of these visits were led by archaeologist Borja Corral and allowed students to deepen their understanding of Talayotic culture and the history of Menorca in an engaging and hands-on way.

Among the most visited sites were the Talayotic settlement of Torre d’en Galmés (29 groups), Trepucó (17), the necropolis of Cala Morell, Montefí, Son Catlar, and other locations such as the Naveta des Tudons and Calescoves, making up a total of 63 groups visiting prehistoric sites. In addition, 30 groups visited other heritage locations such as the Castell de Santa Àgueda, Fort Marlborough, the Tower of Fornells, and the Basilica des Fornàs de Torelló.

This year, the programme expanded to include specific activities for groups with exchange students, involving young people from Menorca, Catalonia and Germany. These visits were conducted by Cecília Ligero, Sara Santaella, Clara Vila and Cristòfol Coll.

Menorca’s historical heritage continues to prove an essential educational tool, helping children and young people to understand and appreciate the past, while fostering respect for and preservation of the island’s cultural legacy.
