03 AprThe intensive use of stone resources in Menorca over time, from the first settlers to the present day, has given rise to a whole world of activities related to the use of stone. Through its techniques, trades, traditions, and craftsmanship, this has shaped a unique culture on the island with a strong identity. The Menorcan landscape is unimaginable without the presence of dry-stone walls, Talayotic remains, or the ever-present imprint of
marès stone.
Àngel Roca's book "Menorca. Culture of Stone" covers all aspects related to stone in a carefully crafted edition available in four languages (Spanish, Catalan, English, and French). A selection of 200 color photographs accompanies the text, which explores key elements of this culture, including its origins, the characteristics of its different periods of development, construction techniques, related trades, specific vocabulary, and a description of the main heritage assets that make up the island’s cultural wealth.
The event will be presented by Carmela Sánchez Gómez, president of the Societat Històrico-Arqueològica Martí i Bella, with contributions from the author and Laetitia Sauleau, president of the Líthica Pedreres de s’Hostal Foundation.
