A new edition of the outreach program “Som Essència Talaiòtica” begins. The Department of Cultural Affairs of the Consell Insular de Menorca and the Talayotic Menorca Agency are organizing a new edition of the outreach program “Som Essència Talaiòtica” to promote the Talayotic heritage of the island, which is included in UNESCO’s World Heritage List. The first activity will take place on
Sunday, January 19, in Sant Agustí, Es Migjorn Gran, as part of the Sant Antoni celebrations, the Diada del Poble de Menorca.
During this first outing, we will visit the settlement, where we will learn about the latest discoveries from the most recent archaeological campaign conducted by the Associació Arqueologia i Patrimoni. Participants will also have the chance to join a small pottery workshop, giving us a glimpse into the lives and household tools crafted by our Talayotic ancestors. Those interested
can register starting today, January 8, through this link. Contributors: Damià Ramis (Associació Arqueologia i Patrimoni) and Clara Vila.
Som Essència Talaiòtica
The program “Som Essència Talaiòtica,” now in its second edition in this format, offers activities, outings, and guided tours that allow participants to gain a closer understanding of the social, cultural, and environmental values of our heritage. These outings are designed for people of all ages and backgrounds with different interests and will take place one weekend each month from January to December, except in July and August.
Throughout the
10 activities scheduled for 2025, we will explore the island's heritage from different perspectives. Each outing will be accompanied by an archaeologist to explain the specific site, but we will also have the participation of various specialists, such as biologists or geologists, who will provide complementary insights. This holistic approach helps us to understand the diversity of the island's heritage. Not only are the sites themselves important, but, as stated in the World Heritage designation, the surrounding landscape, the geological location of the sites, and the efforts of property owners to preserve the heritage and current agricultural landscape are also of great significance.
The cost of this activity is covered by the Talayotic Menorca Agency. Capacity is limited, and prior registration is required a few days in advance through the website. Each person may reserve spots for up to two adults and three children. Registrants will receive an email with details about the meeting point and time. For any questions, you can call or send a WhatsApp message to +34 689 33 28 88.
