Activities "Ja Som Patrimoni Mundial"

The Talayotic Menorca Agency is organising the first edition of the outreach programme "Ja som patrimoni mundial", to commemorate the entry of Menorca into the UNESCO World Heritage List. The programme offers activities, excursions and guided tours that will allow you to learn about the social, cultural and environmental values of our heritage.

Capacity is limited, registration will open two Mondays before each activity. Each person can book a ticket for a maximum of two adults and three children. Those confirmed will receive an email with information about the starting point and meeting time between Thursday and Friday of the week of the excursion. DOP Menorcan Archaeology. From Ferreries to Son Mercer de Baix
Date: May 25, 2024
Place: Ferreries
Registration: From May 13

At the Menorca Geology Centre we will begin by learning about the geological formation of the island. When we visit the Son Mercer de Baix site, we will understand the importance of its location in relation to the Son Fideu ravine and we will discover the inhabited navetas settlement. At the end, we will return to the Son Mercer site for a tasting of DOP Maó cheese. In collaboration with: Agustí Rodríguez. Excursion guided by Judit Morro and Roser García, from Mediterranium. We will travel by car from Ferreries to the Son Mercer estate, concentrating on the smallest possible number of cars.

The stars of prehistory. The Son Catlar site

Place: Ciutadella

At Son Catlar we will see one of the most extensive archaeological sites still preserved. One of the archaeologists working on the Modular project will explain the defensive system of Punic influence. The visit will take place at dusk, because we will end up learning about the importance of astronomy and the implications it possibly had in prehistoric times. World Heritage among farms. To Talatí de Dalt by the camí Vell

Place: Maó

We will meet at the Plant Nursery of Menorca, where we will make a short visit to learn about the flora of the island. We will continue along the camí Vell de Alaior to the Talatí de Dalt site, where the owners of the land on which the settlement is located will explain how they manage a sustainable agricultural exploitation that houses a site. Then, we will visit the site and with an archaeologist. Collaborators: Bernat Pons and Fernando Pons. Excursion guided by Judit Morro and Roser García, from Mediterranium. The first of many. Trepucó site

We will visit the settlement of Trepucó, where renowned archaeologists such as Margaret A. Murray and Maria Lluïsa Serra focused their research, and which was the first to be systematically excavated. At this same site, remains from other periods and their integration into the urban fabric can be seen. The prehistory of an island on the island. From Es Grau to the tower of Rambla following the Camí de Cavalls

We will start at the car park at the entrance to Es Grau to go up the Camí de Cavalls that runs along the beach and the lagoon. During the walk we will learn first-hand about prehistoric mining on Illa d'en Colom and, when we reach our destination, we will talk about the functions and construction system of the defence towers of the Menorcan coastline. Excursion guided by Judit Morro and Roser García, from Mediterranium. Talayotic life and rituals. Museu de Ciutadella

The director of the Museu de Ciutadella will explain to us the functions and daily life of the institution where the patrimonial goods found in the deposits of Ciutadella are guarded. With the elements that are conserved we will be able to learn what life was like for our ancestors. We will finish by discovering one of the most unknown and interesting rituals of the Talayotic culture, "combing the dead", with a workshop in which we will all participate. Diada del Poble de Menorca: A landscape in the thread of time
Date: January 14, 2024
Place: Ciutadella

As part of the celebrations for the Diada del Poble de Menorca, the Department of Cultural Affairs and the Talayotic Menorca Agency are organising an excursion and guided visit to the Talayotic site of Montefí and the naveta des Tudons.

We will walk along the Royal Road ("camí Vell") to discover two prehistoric landscapes (Montefí and the naveta des Tudons). We will learn about the life and death of its inhabitants during prehistoric times and we will also take a leap in time to explain the events that took place in the naveta in 2018 and find out how the monument was recovered. Collaborators: Es Tudons SRM, Xisco Isbert and Lina Torres. Excursion guided by Judit Morro and Roser García, from Mediterranium. The talayot in the Menorcan landscape. From Sant Climent to Cornia

We will walk from Sant Climent to Maó along the "camí Vell" until we reach the talayot of Cornia Nou. There, an archaeologist in charge of the excavations will explain the latest findings in this typical building of the Talayotic culture. At the end, we will try to distinguish which of the talayots preserved on the island is which and locate them on a map. The taula enclosures, unique in the world. Torralba d'en Salort

We will meet at the Torralba d'en Salort site for the guides to explain the taula enclosures, an area that we still have a lot to learn about. To bring us closer to them, they will tell us about the discoveries they have made in this area. Finally, we will play a game about the taula enclosures in Menorca and what their functions were. Collaborators: Fundació Illes Balears and Borja Corral. Excursion guided by Judit Morro and Roser García, from Mediterraneum. The cycle of life in the Binigaus ravine. From Binicodrell to the Binigaus ravine
Date: April 13, 2024
Place: Es Migjorn Gran

We will start with a visit to the Binicodrell site and then walk along the Binigaus ravine towards the des Coloms cave, where we will see how a large natural cavity was reused in prehistoric times. Along the whole length of the ravine, with the help of a biologist, we will discover the richness of the vegetation. Finally, we will arrive at Sant Tomàs beach, where we will be picked up by the bus that will take us back to es Migjorn Gran. In collaboration with: Eva Cardona. Excursion guided by Judit Morro and Roser García, from Mediterranium.
