In 1971, half a century ago, UNESCO created the most ambitious intergovernmental scientific initiative of this international body. Man and the Biosphere Program (MaB) was born with the aim of identifying natural areas in which harmonizing biological and cultural diversity with  economic and social development is a priority.

Under the slogan "Celebrate Life", the 50th anniversary of this initiative has united its members in the commemoration of the Week of Biosphere Reserves, which is being celebrated between the 1st and 7th of November throughout Spain at the behest of the MaB Secretariat in Spain, the Ministry of Ecological Transition and Demographic Challenge. To celebrate, the Menorca Biosphere Reserve Agency and the town councils of Maó, Es Castell and Sant Lluís have joined this collective march.
