17 Mar
With the title “The taulas and the celestial vault”, the astronomer and mathematician Manuel Martín will give a conference on the relationship between the Talayotics and the stars. This activity is part of the exhibition “In praise of the taula. Cyclopean Menorca”, organized by the Consell Insular de Menorca in El Roser, Ciutadella.
Linked to the candidacy of Talayotic Menorca to UNESCO World Heritage Site, this exhibition is about the taula as a monument (memento) that brings together concepts such as memory, ritual, cosmos, symbolism and landscape. The taula as the maximum expression of some unique and exclusive constructions of Menorca inserted in the taula enclosures and that make up one of the highest densities of archaeological sites in the world. The different hypotheses about its meaning and function, from Joan Ramis and Ramis (1818) to the present, are linked to concepts such as symbolism, ritual, cosmology and its relationship with the landscape, which has become an extraordinary example of harmony between culture, nature and community.
